NPMP is an independent grassroots organisation of unpaid organisers working with(in) local communities in Greater Manchester to resist police harassment, violence and racism. Our core values are:
Abolition
We are an abolitionist police monitoring project dedicated to ending police violence and working toward a future without policing. Our goal is to dismantle the power of the police and reduce society’s reliance on them, building instead a society rooted in care and compassion, where all can flourish. As a grassroots organisation working with(in) communities of Greater Manchester and beyond, our independence is essential: we do not work with the police or engage in any activities that might lend legitimacy to policing. Policing is inherently harmful and beyond reform. This guides our values and shapes all aspects of our work.
Resisting Injustice
NPMP’s work is explicitly antiracist and is underpinned by resistance to all forms of injustice including, but not limited to: capitalism and its exploitation; misogyny and gender-based violence; LGBTQ-phobia; ableism. We acknowledge that all liberation struggles are connected and that our struggle against police violence in Greater Manchester is part of a wider national and global struggle.
Building Community
Our work centres those at the sharp end of the harms of policing, whilst recognising that policing harms us all. We show up for and support others working to challenge police and state violence in our communities and we see our work as part of a wider movement.
